Breast Lift with Implants

For many women, sagging or deflated breasts are a source of self-consciousness that no amount of exercise or lifestyle change can address. A breast lift with implants, also called an augmentation-mastopexy, is a combined surgical approach that can simultaneously restore youthful breast position and add volume for a fuller, more balanced silhouette. Our plastic surgeons in Lexington, Dr. Steven A. Schantz and Dr. J. Brad Turner, perform this procedure with a focus on natural-looking, long-lasting results tailored to each patient’s unique anatomy and goals.

What Are the Benefits of a Breast Lift with Implants?

A breast lift alone reshapes and repositions the breast tissue, while breast augmentation utilizes implants to restore volume. Combining both in a single surgery allows patients to address two distinct concerns at once, reducing overall recovery time compared to staging the procedures separately. The benefits offered by an augmentation-mastopexy include a lifted, more youthful breast position; improved fullness in the upper pole of the breast; enhanced breast symmetry; and a contour that complements your overall body proportions. For many patients, the results also bring a renewed sense of confidence and comfort in their appearance, which is an outcome our team considers just as important as the physical transformation.

Am I a Candidate for a Breast Augmentation-Mastopexy?

Good candidates for a breast lift with implants are typically women in good overall health who have sagging breasts (medically referred to as ptosis) caused by pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight loss, genetics, or the natural aging process and who also would like to add volume or restore fullness that has diminished over time. A breast lift with implants may be especially appropriate if your nipples fall at or below the breast crease, if your breasts appear deflated or flat in the upper portion, or if you feel that a lift alone would leave your breasts looking smaller than desired. During your consultation, Dr. Schantz or Dr. Turner will carefully evaluate your breast anatomy, skin laxity, and aesthetic goals to determine whether this combined approach is the right fit for you.

What Does the Breast Lift with Implants Procedure Involve?

Dr. Schantz and Dr. Turner perform augmentation-mastopexy as an outpatient procedure at our fully accredited in-office surgical facility. During surgery, incisions are made around the nipple-areolar complex and, in most cases, along the breast crease. Depending on the degree of sagging, a vertical “lollipop” incision or a full “anchor” incision pattern may also be used. The nipple-areolar complex is repositioned to a more natural, elevated position; excess skin is carefully removed; and the breast tissue is reshaped for improved contour. An implant — saline or silicone, selected in advance based on your goals — is then placed to add volume and enhance upper-pole fullness. Our surgeons take great care with the positioning of incisions so that residual scarring is as discreet as possible and can be easily concealed under clothing and swimwear.

What Can I Expect During Recovery from Breast Lift with Implants Surgery?

Following surgery, most patients go home wearing a supportive surgical bra with light dressings over the incision lines. The bra is worn for approximately four weeks to support the healing breast tissue and help maintain implant position. Any initial discomfort is typically manageable with oral medication prescribed by your surgeon. Most patients feel comfortable resuming light daily activities within 7 to 10 days, though more strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for at least 4 to 6 weeks. Swelling and minor changes in breast shape are normal during healing; final results should become fully visible as the breasts settle over the following weeks and months. As with all surgical procedures, a thorough discussion of individual risks and realistic expectations is an essential part of the pre-operative consultation process.
